問：

MBA求選校UCSD vs UIUC vs UTD vs BU

如標題，目前拿下4間的offer，想請問一下大家會如何選?
BU的部分目前獎學金還沒出來，可能要再過幾天正式offer才會下來

商學院排名US news

總共學費由便宜到貴  (已扣除獎學金)

BU 100000(獎學金未知，但我猜頂多減免一兩萬而已)

因為也不是非常有錢的人，所以學費跟排名都要考量，畢業後希望留美工作兩年左右在回亞洲，之前的工作經驗為科技業跟自行創業。
工作短期目標是在科技業做 marketing或Business develop。 

煩請各位給點意見了，方便的話也說明一下原因，謝謝

這次的題目非常難

由於剛好有個案也面臨相似困境，要分幾次來分析

從真實生涯管理與選校專業上，光兩間學校的比較就需要花上一天，這次也不例外

這次先比BU vs UIUC

簡單說是BU勝出

要從非常多面向來比較

除了排名、五年平均排名、就業數字、學費、城市等一般較為常見的比法外，

其實真正要比的是歷史與聲譽、校風、學院長理念與執行、教授群與研究領域、必修與選修課程、地理位置與產業形態、研究中心、僱主、班級組成、

甚至到平均年資、班級大小、考試分數平均、GPA平均、師生比例、錄取率與獎學金難易度、學生出身名校比例等

美國商學院排名要看US NEWS，由於MBA是各校最大宗的旗艦學位，競爭也最激烈，也因此光商學院排名本身就獨立出來，跟學校綜合排名脫離

而僱主也都知道這個事實，因為錄取來的畢業生是要看他們的領導力與團隊合作能力，以及策略思考、挑戰定義、創新、談判與決策，及危機處理等等的能力，因此若是MBA畢業生，僱主就只會看MBA排名 

其實這兩間的五年平均排名可以說不相上下

BU在US NEWS上的5年平均排名是46.8

UIUC是47根本沒差

尤其UIUC是世紀經理人傑克威爾許的母校，不過他是念化工的

雖然管理泰斗口口聲聲說看不慣MBA，但接班人卻也選了哈佛MBA畢業的傑夫伊梅爾特

然而，有些學校因為科技著稱，因而對滿是銅臭味的商管不屑一顧，卻也因此大意失荊州

這兩間學校主要差在班級大小、僱主，與師資

地理位置反倒是其次，雖說UIUC大家都說很鄉下，但畢竟是個超大的大學城，科系多到列不完，其實美國除了幾個大城外，其他學校都是大學城

一間大學可以比一個信義區還大

雖說BU就業產業較為集中：科技、醫療、管顧、金融就沒了

但由於波士頓是美國歷史的發源地之一，雖然用腳可以走完，但還是文化與商業重鎮

又有間全球知名的管顧叫BCG，就是Boston Consulting Group

還有哈佛、MIT等名校，精英薈萃，因此有龐大的科技、管顧與金融業群聚

學院長算是相當積極，瞄準管顧、醫療、科技與金融等重點領域，都是搭上波士頓順風車的高薪產業

也因此排名成功衝上來

有國際體驗課程，不過大多數學校也都有

而師資也是壓倒性勝利，最核心的「策略與研發」主修師資，有眾多哈佛、史丹佛、華頓、MIT、柏克萊等世界名校出身的王牌群

光這點，加上每年160+錄取生算是中大班，又僱主都算有頭有臉的知名企業，使得BU Questrom在與UIUC的選校之爭中，算是取得壓倒性勝利

UIUC小班制可以提高錄取難度拉排名，也能有更深度的師生互動比例

Illinois Business Consulting號稱是全美最大學生顧問組織

就業產業稍微全面：管顧、財務、科技、製造、醫藥

管顧與金融的就業比例與起薪一般，但行銷起薪近十萬美元算滿高，科技業比例也相當高大約三成

Action Learning算是特別，是融入兩年的體驗，且竟然從第一學期就有管顧案，算是相當大膽

有國際體驗課程，不過大多數學校也都有

歷史悠久

有個Research Park在旁邊，是科研重鎮

還有個國家級單位在裡面 National Center for Supercomputing Applications

但或許是學校強項是在專業科目，如：會計與超級電腦運算

對商學院的經營不如BU如此積極

即使就業領域較為廣泛，算是不食排名這個人間煙火，這並不是什麼壞事

但在師資的經營、班級規模、以及時潮願景上，便顯得有點捉襟見肘。可惜了～

it's all about fit for your career
not about which one is the most popular

Every school here has its own strengths and specific differentiation
You can see in their mission statements from Deans
and take a deep look into their program designs

If you summarize the curriculum of each school into one sentence
my personal interpretation is probably like this:

HBS is corporate restructuring and entrepreneurship
Wharton is well-balanced general management
Stanford is entrepreneurial general management
Kellogg is stratigic marketing management
Chicago is economic management

MIT is executional management science
Columbia is entrepreneurship and finance management
Ross is strategic management practices
Duke is fundamental general management with medical strength
Berkeley is environmental general management with tech

VirginiaDarden is quantitative general management
Dartmouth Tuck is strategic management with finance strength
NYU Stern is practical finance management
UCLA is entrepreneurial general management with tech and entertainment strengths
Cornell Johnson is analytical social management

Yale SOM is organizational management for managers
Austin McCombs is general management with accounting strength
USC Marshall is general management
LBS is strategic management
Insead is economic strategy management

IMD is leadership menegement
Queens is analytical strategic management

It's hard to vote the favorate 3

Your comparison in the Academic education really offers me another
perspective when comparing these schools. I kind of narrowed in the
placement perspective. And luckily for me, your opinion enhances my
preference to Kelly.

I used to worry that Simon is like little Chicago in Finance
concentration,
and Kelly is strong in Marketing. So that's why I hesitated to make a
decision. I think your analysis in the depth and width of academic
education
really makes a good point.

I talked with many students, alums of Kelley and Simon. I found that
Simon
people are very warm-hearted(out of my expectation). The Director of MBA
office talked to me by phone, and provided me lots of information on
their
alum networking. Surprisingly, some alums even called me to describe me
their life in Simon. Anyway, I know that every B-school would have its
alum
networking. And as far as I know, Kelley is doing kind of much better
than
Simon in the Intern hunting of Class 2010, and also in the Job hunting of
Class 2009.

I think placement plus academic education are almost enough for me to
make
a
decision.

對general management的各技能均衡程度相當高

招生重視個人獨特性,過去三四年觀察下來很愛招獨特背景的學生

學校華人眾多

有些超大型企業如3M, Target都在明州有地理鄰近性



UIUC一向是超級會計強校

這兩年積極轉型往綜合管理與營銷

學校出了一些世界名人如Jack Welch

因而是美國名氣響亮的學校

對亞洲學生招生友善

對年資的不那麼要求

成績也較有彈性

很愛年輕有活力的申請人
